How to Find, Add, Create, and Follow Twitter Lists
HeatherO on 11 2, 2009

The latest thing to rock the ‘Twitterverse’ is Twitter Lists.
What are twitter lists?
Twitter users have the ability now to create lists of users based on any criteria that they choose, that others can view and follow. For example, I have created a list of “Guys who get social networking”. I have added men who give value, engage and don’t push or spam to this list. If you were to follow this list, you would automatically follow everyone on that list.
Where do you find these lists?
On your
twitter page
Listorious
Twitter is rolling out access to lists little by little. (You will have to have access to use lists via twitter or Listorious)
Go to your home page on twitter to see if you have access. You will see it if you do!

There will be a big box (as in the photo) at the top with a button to create lists. When you create a list you can add names manually, or go to your ‘following’ page and use the drop downs to add them to a list that you created already. This is great since you don’t have to remember exact spellings, etc. If you have a lot of people on the list, it does take time though! I just went through all of mine and it took several hours!
So I highly recommend that you create the lists first! Then as you go through your followees you can add people to all your lists in one fell swoop!
Beside your follower count on the right, you will see “lists” and a counter of the number of lists that you are on. If you click on a list, it will take you to a page that shows everyone on that list and a button at the top to “follow the list”. (Once you follow a list, you can unfollow individuals as normal if there is someone you don’t want to follow).
Listorious.com is a twitter list directory. This is a great place to find and follow lists, and recommend others to be added to lists!
You can also add any list that you have created or been added to (by someone else) to the directory.

If you aren’t using tweetdeck or another tool to organize your peeps, you might want to start! You’re probably going to be adding a LOT of people! Hopefully tweetdeck will have an update soon that will help with this. In the meantime, resist the urge to follow too many at once! Not only will it overwhelm you, and possibly make you look like a spammer, but you won’t be able to engage or get to know the people that you have added. (kinda like eating at a huge buffet in a hurry! you leave stuffed, and don’t even remember what you ate!:)
If you have questions, feel free to post them to the wall, or here!
Now go have FUN with it!
