Daily OJ -We All Have “Those Days”
HeatherO on 01 21, 2010
We all have ‘those days’ where nothing seems to work, we feel like we can’t do anything right and we question whether we should just go scoop ice cream for a living!
(I mean you can’t screw that up, can you? How many people complain about ice cream?)
I had one of those days yesterday.
In hindsight, it really wasn’t even a whole day. Overall, I had a pretty good day. Then I spent over an hour working on something online, and poof! It was gone! Suddenly I was contemplating the ‘ice cream thing’!
I searched itunes for a remedy, nothing seemed to resonate. Then I got an email from someone who had been waiting to get something from me via snail mail for far too long saying that it still hadn’t arrived.
“SEE! You CAN’T do anything right!” screamed that nasty little gremlin in my head.
“Thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart”, I thought to myself sarcastically (as in maybe you go to work at wal-mart).
It was ridiculous really, but in that moment, not so much.
My youngest even said “you’re still upset about THAT?”
Truth is, it wasn’t just that. I had been feeling frustrated about a number of things for some time, and that was merely a tipping point.
Then of course things seemed to get worse.
Of course they did! With the energy I was swimming in and the focus my head was in, how could it NOT?
Here are my remedies:
Find something that makes you feel good -quick! (funny video, song, etc)
Or someone. Connect with someone who lifts you up, makes you laugh, etc!
Start ‘searching for evidence’! You are going to find whatever evidence you are looking for. If you are looking for ‘see I can’t do anything’, it will all line up before you! Start pointing out all of the things that you ARE doing, that are going well!
Get out a piece of paper and write down at least 20 things that you are grateful for. May sound trite, but it is more powerful than you know!
When all else fails, take a nap! Then repeat the above if needed!
