Bulletin Boards (BBSs) were 'communication' specific with not really much to do on them. There were many of them in plenty areas and each had to be dialed in to manually and separately. Ever since this great thing called the internet became open to the public, things have been much better. Connect once to a 'central hub' and do, well, anything you please (within reason).

SNs are not a repackaged thing/version of "BBSs." They're definitely new(er) and work great.
The 'problem' is the rude, inconsiderate, disrespectful and irresponsible people that think they're 'all that' and obviously seem to enjoy starting feuds and the like.
I happen to be one of the kind, considerate, respectful and responsible 'type.' There are select individuals, though, that 'assume' the opposite on me (yet, they're wrong). Yet, they can't admit when they're wrong. Some don't at all, some do but not until after it's 'too late.'
There's the slim occasion that a friendship is the result of another starting with me. They realize they were wrong, make (an) appropriate statement(s) and it's as if 'it' never happened.

I guess people don't remember the Bulletin Boards that had nothing to do with advertising or a companies point of view. I used to belong to several Bulletin Boards that were topic specific that were used as a place to share ideas. These were interactive conversations in much the same way as posting to Facebook and receiving comments from whoever was interested in commenting.

It seems to me that social networking sites are not a new idea just a repackaged version of the old bulletin board that is much more user friendly and far reaching and is no longer topic specific. Also, though you can choose to ignore the advertising on a social networking site there is a ton of it and there is no choice for the user to remove it.

Don't get me wrong, I think Facebook and the like are great but they are not a new idea. (Wish I would have seen this article back when it was new)

Heather - again, an inspiration. Connecting as a being in need of connecting - that has not changed. We are all seeking a connection and by being authentic, we create a stronger foundation for our own self awareness to develop.

Using the tools we've created as a society, phones, web interactions, hand written letters, all are ways to connect to our fellow human being... we find our voice, or truth & it is reflected back by the conversations we have. We develop ourselves through conversations... thank you for being a part of mine.

BTW - "Traditional" depends on the generation's conversation :D

Thanks Heather. Sometimes the world needs to come full circle. Customer Loyalty is going to land on how much I care about and how much I reach out to my customers on a more personal basis. We are going back to the genuine 'Thank You" to get people's attention. Personal relationships is what is going to make or break you. I love the company I run from my home. SendOutCards seems to be the tool that people need to break that personal, relationship marketing area of their business. To take a closer look, go to: www.Sendoutcards.com/Go4it to look to see how you can use this incredible tool for your business, or become a distributor yourself and make an income from it!
